Today marks the one year anniversary of my bone marrow transplant. At the time, my medical team described the treatment as “rigorous”; which I later found to be an understatement! The after-effects proved overwhelming physically, emotionally and spiritually, and I was insufficient to meet the challenge. Yet our God, Who promised Isaac “I will be with you”, was also with me. Each moment was full with assurance of His presence. And He proved sufficient for the challenge He had given. Now at a year-spaced retrospect, I would say He proved abundant. While bringing remission of cancer He increased joy in Him. Please join John and me in praising God for His answer to our prayers, His answer to your prayers. We thank the Lord for your part in His abundant provision as you cared for us. Romans 15:5-6 says “May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Church, He is always worthy of our praise.

My Grandmother Opal is in the hospital. Doctor says her heart is failing. Too early to say if she will make a full recovery.

Please pray for my mom, Melodee. She broke her femur back in July just walking. She had surgery where the put in a titanium metal plate. She had been recovering well and going to physical therapy 3 times a week. Then unexpectedly the plate broke causing her femur to break again. She had to start the process of healing all over again. This second time we have had insurance issues and other crazy challenges. She is the primary care giver for my dad, Ernie, who has CMT and keeps him in a wheelchair outside of the home. During this craziness my dad fell and hurt his knee. We are thankful that both of them are staying with us for the next couple weeks as we begin physical therapy in our home for Mom. Please pray that Melodee will get stronger each day, that she will not have so much anxiety that it will break a third time, that we can all get along together well in our home, that her recovery will be quick and strong, and that my dad will stay healthy and safe through this process.

Please continue to pray for my niece, Amy, Ed, Charlee and my sister Jeanne and her husband, Mike, as they grieve the loss of Little Riley. I spoke with Amy on Thanksgiving and she is in such shock. This is beyond horrible and my heart just aches for them. The Lord is "close to the brokenhearted" Also pray for Amy and Ed's marriage. They have been married for 13 years and their bond is strong but I know from volunteering at Riley Hospital that these events can take a toll on couples.

Please pray for my niece, her husband Ed and my sister and brother-in-law, Mike and Jeanne Dickman. Their 3 year old daughter, and granddaughter tragically fell out of a 4 story window last Sunday and has passed away. The Celebration of Life honoring Riley will be Nov 5th at 1:00 pm in Tampa. Please pray for their other daughter Charlee who is 8 years old and witnessed the fall. This is a very difficult time for our family as we are still in shock. They are believers and feel the prayers of many.

Blessed be the LORD! For He has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. The LORD is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to Him. Psalm 28:6-7 Today we met with my oncologist and he shared with us that my cancer is in remission. Praise our mighty Lord for His healing power! Our joy will be complete as you, our faithful church family who have prayed and ministered to us, now praise God with us. We know He will continue to heal and strengthen me as I recover from the transplant and chemo side effects. With love in Christ, Marguerite and John Havard

Dear Church Family,
We greatly appreciate your ongoing prayers for us as Marguerite continues treatment for Multiple Myeloma. We’re now in the stem cell transplant phase of treatment which will eliminate her current bone marrow and cancer cells there, followed by infusion of her own stem cells which will grow new bone marrow. The aim is to achieve deep remission, which will hopefully last 10 - 15 years. This week she has many pre-transplant procedures. Today’s placement of the central line went very well and we clearly saw God had gone before us. :) On April 26 she’ll be admitted to hospital and receive a strong chemotherapy drug. The following day she’ll be infused with her stem cells from storage. The next few weeks will be spent in hospital to treat the severe side effects and monitor/prevent infection. Recovery at home will follow. We’d appreciate your prayers specifically for strength and protection, wisdom for medical staff, quick stem cell engraftment and restoration of bone marrow, joy in the waiting through months of suppressed immune system and fatigue. Please continue to pray Psalm 73:28 - that we would have the conviction to testify as God gives opportunity. Praise the Lord for the peace He gives! Thank you for your prayers and care for us!!

Dear Church! This week I started my third cancer treatment cycle. Only two months of chemo remain. Then, if the myeloma protein doesn’t show in blood tests, the next step is another bone marrow biopsy. If it shows zero cancer cells present, remission has been achieved. If cancer cells are found, autologous stem cell transplant is a possible next step. My latest lab tests show the chemotherapy and targeted monoclonal antibody treatments have been very effective. I praise God for giving the medical community the tools to develop these amazing medicines. While medicine side effects can be tough, God’s grace is tougher! I’m in awe of God’s peace. He gives without measure. He has protected me from worry and fear and filled me with joyful, expectant hope. I’m also learning that He is always worthy of my worship at all times in all circumstances. John and I are humbled by the many prayers being made for us. Thank you. How precious is the body of Christ! As we continue to look to God for healing, please continue to pray in light of Psalm 73:28 But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all Your works. Thank you church for your prayers and notes. We praise God for you. Praise the Lord with us that my first cycle of chemo treatments showed great progress toward eliminating cancer cells. My oncologist was even able to tweak treatments to hopefully provide more protection of my immune system. I began the second cycle of chemo yesterday with most of the pneumonia symptoms gone. God be praised! Please continue to pray for a quick return to strength following each treatment, strengthened back/alleviation from pain, protection from illness for both John and I, continued wisdom for my medical care team. The verse on my heart remains Psalm 73:28- But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all Your works. Thank you :)

Thank you for helping bear our burdens! Your prayers are a sweet aroma to the Lord and are part of the works of God that we can testify. (Psalm 73:28) Early Thursday morning Marguerite became quite sick, very fast and has been in hospital with pneumonia and sepsis. Our elders & Small Group have been praying. God’s faithfully answered. Praise God for His presence, guidance, provision. Pray for healing of M’s lungs, IV infiltrations, cancer. Pray for wisdom for M’s oncologist as he makes treatment decisions. Pray for protection for both John and M from any viruses going around. Praise that this illness occurred during the week of rest they give patients inbetween chemo cycles. M should begin next chemo cycle Dec 28. M should be released from hospital by tomorrow. We plan to quarantine for a while now. We pray with you that all of our hearts might be bent toward our God Who worked the wonders of salvation by giving His One and Only Son. John & Marguerite Havard
